High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

We were staying at the Trade Winds Resort and decided to eat here on two separate occasions. On our first day at the resort, we decided to have lunch here. The service this day sucked. Not sure if our waitress was new or if she just was clueless! I shared the Chili Cheese Dip & Chips as an appetizer. The chili cheese dip was alright. I was expecting more out of the dip though. I ordered the Fish Tacos (white fish, hand-breaded and topped with cabbage, cheddar jack cheese and creamy Poblano sauce) and my boyfriend ordered a chicken quesadilla. The fish tacos were pretty good (although I would have preferred it if the fish was grilled rather than fried). The chicken quesadilla on the other hand, it was blah. It tasted as if it came out of a microwave. On our last day at the resort, we had dinner at Beef's. This was not by choice (our friends were eating there and we decided to meet up). I decided to give them another try. On this day, service was really good and attentive. Our waitress constantly checked up on us, even when the restaurant was packed. I had the Boneless Chicken Wing Basket with curly fries as an appetizer and the Chicken Bowl (seasoned rice topped with grilled chicken, onions, peppers, cheddar jack cheese, chopped tomatoes and creamy Poblano sauce) as my main entrée. The main entrée comes with a side salad. The boneless chicken wings were good, but not great like I thought they would be. The wings came with pre-packaged blue cheese and all the buffalo sauce was at the bottom of the basket - weird. The curly fries were pretty awesome though (my only highlight of the night). Unfortunately, that's where the good food stopped for me. Here's my problem: I love Chipotle! And I love their Chicken Burrito Bowl. And if you're going to try to imitate it, you better make sure it's awesome or at least good. Unfortunately, their Chicken Bowl was completely bland!!! The rice tasted like Minute Rice and the chicken was just bland and awful. Yuck! While I understand this is a chain restaurant, they try to hard to compare themselves to other chains like Chili's, Applebee's, Chipotle but fall flat instead. Needless to say, I will not be coming back when I'm in Florida.

I had such a good burger at their St. Petersburg location I thought it would be fun to try them again, here at the Tradewinds Resort. They're nestled inside a mini mall in the back of the resort, not far from the beach. I got the Smokin' Jack Sliders which consisted of four perfectly cooked mini burgers with a smoky mayo. I absolutely loved the mashed potato side as it came with a Guinness gravy on top. A filling appetizer indeed. Our friends had the Potato Skins which came with crumbled bacon, cheddar and sour cream and the Cheddar Broccoli soup. Nice little knosh and not too expensive. Service was good and the sports t.v.'s were not so loud as to drown out our conversation.

We were staying at the Tradewinds and went to this place a couple of times while we were there. When we booked the hotel, I started looking at the restaurants they had on property. I saw Beef's (I recognized the name from a college football bowl game), so I checked out the website. They boast world famous wings and it looked like a really cool place, so I was excited to check it out. I even joined their e-mail list and they had sent me some coupons and special offers. We go there for lunch on our second day. I ordered the "Watterson" sandwich and my wife had a salad. Also, we started out with 8 wings. I am a huge Buffalo wing fan, so I was curious to see how good they were. The wings were pretty good - not great but they were decent. But, they use a pre-packaged blue cheese which I thought was very strange for a wing place. The "Watterson" sandwich I had was very good. It was a roast beef sandwich on grilled rye with all your usual sandwich toppings. It was a very unique sandwich but also very good. I was pleased. My wife was not as lucky. Her salad was made with lettuce that wasn't bad but it wasn't crispy and fresh. To put it mildly, her salad was pretty bad. We ate another meal there later during the stay and I had a burger and she had the cheeseburger wrap. My burger's bun was stale - even though it was toasted. It wasn't inedible but it just wasn't fresh. My wife really liked her wrap. On a side note, they have $1.50 drafts M-F from 4-7 for happy hour. So - out of the 4 meals we had, 2 were decent and 2 just really weren't that fresh. Also, the wings were pretty good and the happy hour special were the best at the hotel. Typically, I wouldn't give a restaurant a 1-star based on all I wrote. I would probably go 2 or 3 stars. But... Here is the 1-star explanation.... Like I said above, I joined the mailing list and was emailed some coupons and special offers. So, after our meal I tried to use one of the coupons. The waitress proceeds to tell me, you can not use this - we aren't affiliated with Beef O' Brady's, we are only affiliated with the Tradewinds. The waitress was very polite about it, and I was on vacation so I didn't question it. Then I started thinking about it - I am someone who hates being lied to or BS'd. I was thinking about that experience later in the day and it started to irk me. How can a place named Beef O' Brady's that is listed on the Beef O' Brady's website have Beef O' Brady employees telling customers that they have no affiliation with Beef O' Brady's? When you think about it logically for about 5 seconds, it is an absolutely ridiculous notion. I don't blame our waitress as someone obviously told her to say this, but give me a freakin' break. So - for the 1st time ever I emailed a company directly to let them know about this. I simply explained that I was very confused as to how a Beef O' Brady's restaurant listed on their website can say that they have no affiliation with Beef O' Brady's. A week later, i haven't heard anything - don't expect to. I am sure they felt no need to respond to someone from NJ who is clearly not a regular customer and just stopped in on vacation, but I feel like that is a terrible way to do business. Needless to say, I will not be coming back when I am in FL.

Food was ok but service was terrible. Management team needs a class on conflict resolution and customer service...

First of all: the name is as tacky as the interior. That being said, "Beef" has average bar food and sub average service. Our waiter was quick to get us our drinks, but evidently didn't care to know what we wanted to order. Long after our menus were down, our waiter remained behind the bar on his phone, intermittently checking ESPN on one of "Beef's" many TVs. We had to call him over, as it seemed he wasn't about ready to get off his phone any time soon. The food is average. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap which, frankly, was very ordinary for an extraordinary price. The Fries are plain; the taste reminiscent of frozen Fries.

Buffalo chicken sandwich was awesome. Hot dogs were terrible. Wait staff is slow even for beach front standards. Drinks are $$$ and not amazing. Bucket of beer specials are ok though. We will check out other places nearby next time - not amazing by any stretch of the imagination.

Just finished a meal here. It wasn't the way you want to start vacation or your first stay at a resort. Our group of 10 waited more than an hour to get our order, and them we waited another 25 minutes or so to get the remaining two meals. This is a double-property resort that should know how to serve large groups efficiently during peak times. These weren't complicated orders - standard burgers, etc. A manager offered to comp the two meals, and I asked for more because our entire group had to wait for no apparent reason. It took another 20+ minutes to get our boxes and our bill. Perhaps we need to consider off-site options. We would've saved time, it seems.

This restaurant supports the Tradewinds resorts so I can only assume they have a captive audience. Food, service and atmosphere were all bad. I am not sure how places like this survive. Ordered a mojito.... they used crushed ice and and ground the mint so fine... it looked like a spinach dip.... and drank like one too. Ordered the pretzel bun sliders and you had to really look to find the meat. Daughter ordered the chicken strips... freezer burned. I wont keep going. I guess if you have to eat here... do. But if you have any choice at all... don't.
